The divorce statute provides for Florida Child Support “Guidelines”. The net income of bother parents is combined and a child support figure is reached depending on the number of children involved. A person will pay a portion of that support figure depending on what percentage of the parties’ combined income their income represents. Living expenses of the parents don’t get factored in unless there are unusual circumstances. Note that if the parties have basically the same income, and each party has the minor children for visitation/timesharing the same amount of time as the other, child support may not be due.
